Professional Background: Leading up to my current role as an American Family Insurance Agency Owner, I have spent the majority of my career in banking. I got my start as a bank teller with Kohler Credit Union back when I was 16 years old. Since then, I have held various roles in banking, from loan officer to mortgage origination, to bank manager. All of which I have enjoyed thoroughly and have learned a great deal.

Personal Background: My family migrated to the US when I was five. I spent the first 13 years in Northern California, where I grew up surrounded by family and friends. We then moved to the east coast for a bit before landing in the Midwest. I value time with my parents and sister above all else. They are what inspires me to do what I do.

Hobbies & Interest: I got involved in non-profits in my early twenties, when a buddy coerced me to serve on a board. He said it would only be for one year. Here I am fifteen years later, still on at least one board with a non-profit organization. When I'm not working or spending time with family, I enjoy volleyball and soccer. My other hobbies include checking out restaurants and picking up the latest sci-fi novel.

AREAA Greater Milwaukee is dedicated to promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities in Asian American communities by creating a powerful national voice for housing and real estate professionals that serve this dynamic market.

Founded in 2003, the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) is a national nonprofit trade organization dedicated to improving the lives of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community through homeownership.

AREAA's Achievements

  • #NOOTHER CAMPAIGN
  • AREAA successfully persuaded the US Census Bureau to track and include Asian housing data as a standalone category in its quarterly reports on homeownership by race and ethnicity.
  • Translations Clearinghouse
  • AREAA collaborated with the GSEs to create translated resources in Chinese for LEP borrowers. Korean, Vietnamese, and Tagalog are set to launch this year.
  • Preferred Language Field
  • AREAA worked with FHFA to include a Preferred Language Field on the 2020 redesigned URLA in order to better capture the needs of LEP borrowers. In 2019, the FHFA removed the question. AREAA continues to advocate for the reversal of its decision.
  • ELIMINATING THE 1% RULE
  • AREAA helped change underwriting standards to more fairly account for student loans that were in deferment when calculating a borrower’s debt-to-income ratio.
  • TO FIND OUT WHAT WE ARE DOING NEXT VIEW OUR 2020 THREE-POINT PLAN HERE.

WHY WE NEED YOU

Our members and our partners enable us to carry out our vision and mission to represent the AAPI community in our advocacy for greater homeownership access for all. Through your support, we are able to provide national events where we are able to educate and develop our membership and the larger real estate industry at large. We believe that events such as ours are vital to developing successful AAPI leaders in the brokerage, lending, banking, and real estate industries. With greater leadership and success in these industries, AAPI representation grows.

About the Artist

Xizhou Xie, pronounced “she-joe shieh,” is an emerging abstract artist based in Madison, WI. With her home, studio, and art gallery all under one roof, she believes that art should seamlessly integrate into daily life. She specializes in creating vibrant pieces characterized by vivid colors, bold textures, and dynamic compositions that engage the viewer’s senses.

Xizhou draws inspiration from the diverse tapestry of life itself. Her unique experience as a first-generation immigrant can be seen through her choice of materials, subjects, and styles.  From the different landscapes of her home lands, the ebb and flow of emotions, and the intricate balance of conflicting cultural values, Xizhou explores both how much and how little of her different identities can be seen on the canvas. Her connection to the worlds around her fuels a constant exploration of what she can convey with each painting, ensuring that each artwork is a unique reflection of the artist’s evolving perspective.

Xizhou also creates functional home décor from her original paintings. With a positive tone and focus on creativity and individuality, Xizhou’s art will brighten up any living space. Her artwork can be viewed in person at the Xizhou Xie Art Gallery.

When she’s not in the studio, Xizhou enjoys tennis, cuddling with her cats, and traveling. She is always looking for ways to push the boundaries of her art.

We inspire collaboration and create connections to unleash our community’s potential. Since its inception on June 7, 2013, 100state has grown rapidly, connecting members to opportunities and challenges by hosting brainstorms, creating events to encourage collaboration, and providing an inspiring environment.

Coworking

100state’s mission is to create a community and home for problem solvers, creatives, and entrepreneurs. We are a cоwоrking community that provides a shared working space thаt iѕ equipped with desks, сhаirѕ, printing ѕtаtiоns, private offices, meeting rooms, and internet. Members of the community work independently or together in small startup teams. A safe place to succeed and grow ideas. 100state is dedicated to providing education resources, events, mentorship, and more to the Madison area business and arts communities.

Startups

100state started with a back of the napkin business plan. Eight years later we are still in business and have hosted and grown some of the area’s most successful startups. Whether it’s the environment, brainstorms, startup mentoring, lean business model classes or learning about the business model canvass from another coworker or mentor here, our community is bursting at the seams with the support, knowledge, inspiration and resources to help you launch and grow your startup.

Community

What differentiates 100state from other coworking spaces is the community. When you join the 100state family, you belong to a community of like-minded people here to help on another. We have ongoing traditions, rituals, educational opportunities, classes, hackathons and socials that connect our members in ways that the connections run much deeper than just sharing an office space. Many of our members don’t even use the office space but find value in the events, connections and networking, and opportunities that come from being a 100stater.

Madison

Lao Laan-Xang opened in January 1990, on Odana Road and was Madison's first authentic Laotian restaurant.  We reopened on Willy Street in October 1997 and another location on Atwood in February of 2005. We are still the only truly authentic Lao restaurant in Madison.

We are delighted to provide the unique cuisine of Laos to those who live in and visit Madison. Our restaurants are consistently selected as area favorites in local polls and recently the Wisconsin State Journal name our Curry Squash as one of the 30 Plates that Define Madison.

Lao Laan-Xang (pronounced, Lah-o Lahn Sahng) means, “Laos, Land of a Million Elephants.”  In the old kingdom of Laos, elephants were indeed plentiful, and still are regarded as a symbol of strength and prosperity.

We take great pride in freshly preparing each dish in genuine Lao tradition.  Our menu provides a sampling of authentic Lao flavors ranging from subtle to adventurous. We are committed to using the freshest ingredients, using locally grown sources whenever available. We hope you enjoy the results of our efforts.

We welcome and appreciate your patronage.  We wouldn’t be here today without you! We hope you continue to explore the many flavors of Lao cuisine and share this unique culinary experience with friends and family.

In gratitude,

The Inthachith family and the Lao Laan-Xang Staff.
